Zelensky and Putin react to Trump's inauguration shift
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Donald Trump's inauguration as President of the USA is seen as a day of change and hope for addressing many issues, including global ones. He believes the announced policy of peace through strength offers an opportunity to achieve lasting and just peace.
"Congratulations to President Donald Trump and the American people on the inauguration! It's a day of change and hope for addressing many issues, including global challenges," wrote Zelensky on platform X.
Zelensky observed that Donald Trump has always been a decisive politician, and his policy of peace through strength offers an opportunity to reinforce American leadership and achieve lasting and just peace, which is most crucial.
The Ukrainian president remarked that the fate of this century is being decided now. He called for cooperation to ensure it becomes a great and successful century for democracy, rather than for those who wish us all failure.
"Good luck, President Trump! We eagerly await our active and mutually beneficial cooperation. Together, we are stronger and can ensure greater security, stability, and economic growth for the world and our citizens," emphasised Zelensky.
Putin has already commented on Trump’s inauguration
Vladimir Putin spoke on Tuesday about the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the USA with members of the Russian Security Council. He expressed his expectation for "dialogue" with Washington on equal terms and assured that Moscow will continue to "fight for Russia's interests" in the war against Ukraine.
At the meeting of the Security Council, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Trump considers the war in Ukraine "one of the priority directions" of his foreign policy. Putin noted that Trump and his colleagues speak of a "desire to resume direct contacts with Russia" and "the necessity to do everything to prevent World War III"; he did not provide specifics.
According to reports from the government agency TASS, the Kremlin leader congratulated Trump on taking office and praised him for his "courage" and "convincing victory" in last year's presidential elections in the USA.
