Trump's inauguration oath: A misplaced Bible moment?
As noted by American media, Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony was somewhat hurried, with a few individual blunders. Observant viewers focused on the precise moment of the oath. Did Donald Trump, while taking it, forget to place his left hand on the Bible?
The main highlight of Monday's ceremony at the Capitol was the moment Donald Trump took the oath.
Following this, he officially became the 47th president of the United States.
Media circulated recordings and photos that nonetheless caused some consternation.
As reported by NBC, similar to 2017, Trump took the oath using Lincoln's Bible as well as a Bible belonging to his mother.
The president raised his right hand and began the oath before his wife Melania had time to lift both Bibles. It's not clear if at any point during the ceremony he placed his hand on them.
"It looks like he forgot to place his left hand on the Bible," writes RMF FM correspondent Paweł Żuchowski, covering the inauguration.
It's noteworthy that during the previous inauguration in 2017, Donald Trump took the oath on two Bibles. In photos from that ceremony, his hand is clearly seen resting on the books held by his wife.
What next? Nothing
Whether Trump placed his left hand on the Bible or not really doesn't matter, clarifies NBC.
As stated, the Constitution of the United States specifies that "no religious text shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
The Constitution only requires that the elected president, in this case, Trump, takes the oath and recites specific words.
The rest depends on the ceremony's participants.
