Trump pledges global peace and unity in inaugural address
- We will measure our success by the wars we end. I will be remembered as a bringer of peace, announced U.S. President Donald Trump during his inaugural speech.
Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday. In his inaugural speech, he stated that his "proudest legacy will be to be a creator of peace and a unifier."
- I am pleased to say that as of yesterday, the day before I took office, hostages in the Middle East are returning to their families, - Trump said.
- Just like in 2017, we will once again build the strongest military the world has ever seen. We will measure our success not only by the battles we win but also by the wars we end, and perhaps most importantly, the wars we will never enter - stated the new U.S. president.
- Our strength will deter all wars and bring a new spirit of unity to a world that was angry, brutal and completely unpredictable, - Trump said.
Congratulations from the president of Ukraine
"Congratulations to President Donald Trump and the American people on the inauguration! It is a day of change and hope for solving many problems, including global challenges," wrote Zelensky on platform X.
Zelensky assessed that Trump has always been a decisive politician, "and his policy of peace through strength offers a chance to strengthen American leadership and achieve lasting and fair peace - that is most important."
The Ukrainian president emphasised that right now the fate of this century will be decided. He appealed for cooperation to make it a "great and successful century for democracy, and not for those who wish us all failure."
