The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, foresees a new era in international relations following Donald Trump's inauguration. He suggested that "even the sun will shine differently in Brussels." Orban believes that Trump's presidency will contribute to the rising significance of the right on the continent and will also initiate a "golden era" in relations between Hungary and the United States, it is stated.

A new force in the European Parliament

The Hungarian Prime Minister did not hide his enthusiasm for the prospect of changes expected to occur in Europe under the influence of the new US policy. In the context of the rising importance of the right wing, Orban mentioned his party, Fidesz, and its allies. Last year, these groups united to form the "Patriots for Europe" coalition in the European Parliament, which has become the third-largest force in the institution.

Emphasising his anti-EU rhetoric, Orban spoke of a "second phase of offensive," aimed at the "occupation of Brussels." According to him, members of his party feel great enthusiasm about the prospect of cooperation with the Trump administration. These statements have further intensified the tone of relations between Hungary and the European Union, which Orban regularly criticises.

Opposition to Brussels

As tvn24.pl reports, Orban consistently portrays Hungary as a counterbalance to the system governing the European Union, describing Brussels as "occupied by a leftist-liberal oligarchy."
