Players responded to the tragedy at the Christmas market in Magdeburg

"The car drove into a group of people at the Christmas market in Magdeburg" could be read on the stadium's jumbotron during the match. When the visiting team’s player Mohammed El Hankouri scored a goal to make it 4-2, he raised his hands in the air, showing an apologetic gesture.

The Magdeburg team’s players refused to give interviews after the match. Only the captain of the home team, Andre Hoffmann, stepped in front of Sky TV cameras, delivering a clear assessment of what had happened during the match.

One thing is clear: football immediately fades into the background. There are more important things, football somehow doesn't play a role. I don't have too much information. But what I've heard is frightening - he said.
