Ukraine pioneers unmanned warfare with drones near Kharkiv
According to the latest report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian forces have conducted their first attack using only unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and drones with a live transmission system (FPV).
This initial attack underscores Ukraine's ongoing efforts to harness technological advancements in ground operations, notes the ISW.
The attack was executed by a Ukrainian brigade operating near Kharkiv in the east of the country, targeting an area north of Kharkiv and successfully destroying Russian positions.
A spokesperson for the unit stated that Ukrainian forces carried out the attack using dozens of UGVs armed with machine guns and also employed them for laying and removing mines at undisclosed locations in the area, adds the American think tank.
"Ukraine also continues to innovate aerial drone production. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Ukrainian officials completed tests of a drone attached to fiber optic cables that will be more resistant to electronic warfare (EW) interference. Russian forces have recently fielded such drones in Kursk Oblast and Ukraine. A Ukrainian drone company reported that it recently assembled a prototype of the first FPV drone made exclusively from components manufactured in Ukraine," notes the ISW.
