Mangione joins P. Diddy in notorious Brooklyn Jail

Luigi Mangione, accused of the murder of millionaire Brian Thompson, has been placed in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. According to "The New York Post," rapper P. Diddy is held in the same prison. Mangione faces charges including first and second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
The Metropolitan Detention Center is often called the "celebrity jail." Despite such a name, there is no luxury to be found there. In 2019, the former warden of the facility, Cameron Lindsay, described it as "one of the most troubled, if not the most troubled facility." In 2024, a federal judge threatened to dismiss the sentence of an individual if sent to MDC due to the "inhumane conditions" there.

Rapper P. Diddy is held in the Special Housing Unit, known as "the hole," where the conditions are particularly difficult. Inmates don't even have pillows, and the cells are small and uncomfortable. Those who break the rules, are in protective custody, or are awaiting transfer to another prison end up there. Diddy's lawyer described these conditions as "disgusting" in a conversation with CNN.
He’s waking up on a steel bed with a one-and-a-half-inch [4 centimetres] mattress, no pillow, in an eight by 10-foot cell [2,5 to 3 metres] that I can assure you is disgusting - he said.
It is unknown if Mangione will end up in the same part of the prison as Diddy. Federal charges could result in the death penalty for him. The Metropolitan Detention Center has previously hosted notable figures like R. Kelly and Ghislaine Maxwell.
