The explosion happened early in the morning on Monday. The local residents of Novocherkassk in the Rostov region reported hearing a series of explosions. Ukraine's Channel24 shared several videos uploaded by Russians.

A collection of videos was also shared by the channel "This is Rostov". They featured audio and video footage of the explosions at the power plant. "Something fell!" - can be heard in the recording.

It was reported that smoke was seen above the power plant, and emergency services were dispatched to the location. Approximately 20 drones were seen flying over the region.

Two sections of the power plant were closed down

A statement was released by the governor of the region, Vasily Golubev, shortly after. "This evening, at the transformer substation of the state District Power Plant in Novocherkassk, a fire erupted but was quickly extinguished by the station's personnel. Fortunately, there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation," he noted.

In a follow-up statement, Golubev acknowledged that the incident led to a temporary loss of electricity through two high voltage lines. "Electricity supply to customers has already been restored. Two power units of the state regional power plant were temporarily taken out of operation," he further stated.

The Novocherkassk District Power Plant is the largest thermal power plant and the second largest in capacity after the Rostov nuclear power plant.
