In recent years, there has been increasing discussion about the infestation of Asiatic ladybirds. In the autumn of 2024, they are once again visible as they look for winter shelter. Unfortunately, contact with them can have unpleasant consequences. Here are some ways to deal with them quickly.
Homemade spray for Asian ladybirds
Like many other insects, Asian ladybirds cannot tolerate certain scents. They are susceptible to citrus aromas, which are usually pleasant to most people. If we want to deter them, it's worth using this to our advantage.
To prepare a homemade spray for Asian ladybirds, we need about 20 drops of lemon or orange essential oil, 3.5 ounces of water, and a spray bottle. Mix all ingredients thoroughly and spray in areas where ladybirds may appear, paying particular attention to door and window frames.
Zero waste method for Asian ladybirds
There are many ways to deal with the invasion of Asian ladybirds once and for all. Additionally, we can repurpose items that would usually be discarded.
Lemon or orange peels can be excellent at repelling these insects. Wrap the peels in a tissue, tie them securely, and hang the sachet near the window or place it on the windowsill. Remember to replace the peels with fresh ones periodically.
Interestingly, you can also use bay leaves or cloves similarly, which are also effective at repelling Asian ladybirds. Place them in a linen pouch and attach it to the window frame to keep these insects at bay.
Are Asian ladybirds dangerous?
While Asian ladybirds do not pose a significant threat to humans, contact with them can result in unpleasant consequences. These insects can bite, causing various allergic reactions, such as redness or itching.
