Zelensky pledges cooperation with Trump amidst Republican nomination
Late Friday night into Saturday morning, Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with Donald Trump. The Ukrainian president congratulated the former US President on his nomination by the Republican Party and thanked him for the US's support of Ukraine to date. Trump, in turn, wrote that he "appreciates Zelensky for reaching out."
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Donald Trump on being nominated by the Republican Party as a presidential candidate and wished him "strength and absolute safety in the future."
"I noted the vital bipartisan and bicameral American support for protecting our nation's freedom and independence," reads the post from the President of Ukraine.
Zelensky also emphasised that "Ukraine will always be grateful to the United States for its help in strengthening our ability to resist Russian terror." They announced a "personal meeting" where "steps that can make peace fair and truly lasting" will be discussed.
"I appreciate for reaching out"
On the other hand, Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that he had a "very good phone call" with Zelensky. He confirmed that Zelensky congratulated him and condemned the assassination attempt.
"I appreciate President Zelenskyy for reaching out because I, as your next President of the United States, will bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost so many lives and devastated countless innocent families," reads Trump's post.
"Both sides will be able to come together and negotiate a deal that ends the violence and paves a path forward to prosperity," added the former president.
Zelensky on Trump
If Donald Trump becomes President of the USA, we will have "hard work, but we are hard workers," declared Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with the BBC published late Thursday night into Friday morning. He announced that he was ready to work with anyone in power in the USA.
Asked for a comment on the statement by Republican candidate for US Vice President J.D. Vance, who in the past said that "he doesn’t care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other," Zelensky stated that "Maybe he really doesn’t understand what goes on in Ukraine." - "So we have to work with the United States" – emphasised Zelensky.
