"On Thursday, 7 March 2024, the President of Ukraine endorsed Valerii Zaluzhnyi for the role of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has put forward a proposal for an agreement to the British," according to the statement published on the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website.
The position was previously held by former Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko, whom Zelensky appointed on 20 July 2020.
Prystaiko was relieved of his post in July 2023 following Zelensky's critique of the then British Defense Minister Ben Wallace, who had criticized the Ukrainians for showing a lack of gratitude.
Valerii Zaluzhnyi's dismissal from military command
Zelensky relieved Zaluzhnyi of his duties as commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on 8 February. "I had a discussion with General Valerii Zaluzhnyi. I expressed my appreciation for the two years he devoted to defending our nation, Ukraine. In our conversation, we explored what changes and innovations are necessary for our armed forces. The topic of a suitable candidate to lead the revamped Ukrainian Armed Forces was also broached. I consider this the opportune moment for such a renewal. I proposed to Valerii to continue being a part of our team," Zelensky shared on his Telegram profile.
General Valerii Zaluzhnyi acknowledged his departure and noted that a decision was made to alter the strategy of the Ukrainian military.
