Delta reminds cabin crew hopefuls: Visible underwear unacceptable

Delta Air Lines has created a special document regarding the appearance of candidates for its cabin crew. The two-page document addresses the type of underwear, which has caused a stir online.

Delta Air Lines is the oldest carrier in the United States and has an almost 100-year history. It operates approximately 5,400 flights daily and offers 325 destinations in 52 countries on six continents. It employs around 100,000 people.

Despite these impressive numbers, interview candidates increasingly disrespect tradition and break the boundaries of good taste.

During the ongoing recruitment, the airline had to remind those interested in working for the carrier how they should look and behave during the job interview.

In the two-page document titled "Appearance Requirements," even the underwear issue is mentioned. The online uproar, however, is not about the requirements but rather about the fact that such issues must be addressed.

Candidates were instructed that during the interview, "underwear should not be visible." Vulgar language and chewing gum were also prohibited.

"I am stunned that Delta had to do this. I flew for Virgin Atlantic for many years, and our appearance standards were very high and strict. Appearance checks were also conducted during the pre-flight check-in," "Seriously, do such things need to be said?" - comments read.

What about nail polish and earrings?

The document also devotes significant space to personal hygiene. It reminds us that nails must be clean and well-groomed. Painting nails is allowed, provided that they are all the same colour. Neon shades, flashy decorations, or glitter are not allowed. Cabin crew can use aftershave or perfume, but only if the scent is not overwhelming.

It was added that job interview attire must be "professional and well-fitted" and that skirts should not be too short.

Delta does not allow visible tattoos. If they are covered by clothing, there is no issue.

The carrier requires hair to be a "natural shade" without bright highlights or unnatural streaks. Candidates may also have a single nose piercing and two earrings in each ear—as long as they are not too flashy.

Delta resumed recruiting for cabin crew positions in early September for the first time in over a year.
