Serbian officer shot in a terrorist attack outside the Israeli embassy
A Serbian police officer was shot in front of the Israeli embassy in Belgrade on Saturday, the Serbian Ministry of Interior Affairs reported, describing the attack as a terrorist act. The assailant was neutralised.
The officer from the gendarmerie, which is part of the police, was part of the permanent security detail of the Israeli diplomatic mission. He was shot in the neck and was taken to hospital, where he is currently undergoing surgery.
The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that there is "no doubt that it was a terrorist attack." The officer opened fire on the assailant, who died 30 minutes after the exchange of gunfire.
