A coffee maker is a device that many of us use daily. Like any other appliance, a coffee maker requires maintenance. Regular cleaning of the coffee maker is not only crucial for preserving the good taste of the coffee being prepared but also for prolonging the lifespan of the device itself.

Each use leaves coffee residue and water deposits inside the coffee maker, which not only worsens the taste of the beverage but can also damage the internal components of the device. Additionally, on components that come into contact with water, bacteria can accumulate and mould can develop.

How to clean a coffee maker?

Before starting to clean the coffee maker, it is important to prepare properly. The first step is to unplug the device from the electrical outlet. Then, empty all containers of water and coffee remnants. Ensure that movable parts such as trays and filters are easily accessible, as they need to be removed and thoroughly washed.

You can use household products for cleaning, such as vinegar or citric acid, which are excellent for removing limescale. You can also prepare a few soft cloths and a gentle sponge to clean more delicate surfaces.

How to clean the coffee maker with vinegar? Vinegar is one of the most recommended solutions for cleaning a coffee maker. Mix vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio and pour the solution into the water reservoir. Run the coffee maker to flush the system with the vinegar solution, which will remove limescale and deposits.

If you're concerned about the strong smell of vinegar, you can use citric acid, which is equally effective. Dissolve two teaspoons of citric acid in a container of water and run the coffee maker to pass the mixture through the system. After finishing, rinse the system with clean water to remove any residue of the solution.

While cleaning the coffee maker, also clean the nozzles and milk frother. Milk residue left for a longer time can lead to clogging of frother components and the formation of deposits that are difficult to remove. Therefore, it is important to clean the nozzles and frother after each use. Use a soft sponge and mild detergent to thoroughly wash all components.

How to take care of a coffee maker?

First and foremost, make sure to remove the coffee grounds from the container and rinse the tray after each use. Wiping the milk frother after each use prevents residue from building up, which later becomes difficult to remove. If your coffee maker is equipped with a milk container, remember to wash this container and the tube that draws the milk daily. Regular cleaning of the coffee maker will not only extend the lifespan of the device but will also make the coffee prepared in it taste perfect.
