Lukashenko admits health issues but insists he's 'not dying yet'

Alexander Lukashenko has admitted for the first time that he has health problems. Due to the persistent pain in his leg, he plans to walk less and drive more. However, he emphasised that he "does not intend to die just yet."

There are frequent rumours in the media about the poor state of health of the Belarusian dictator. Recently, a photo of Alexander Lukashenko with Vladimir Putin caused a stir. Belarusian oppositionist Pavel Latushko reported that, according to their sources, the dictator suffers from diabetes and suggested that he might die soon. "Will the democratic world be ready to support Belarusians on this decisive day?" asked Latushko.

"I'm not dying yet"

On 2 August, Lukashenko visited the Mozyr region to see the progress of works on removing the effects of the hurricane that passed over the southeastern part of Belarus in July. As reported by Gazeta By, during the visit, the dictator addressed the long-standing rumours about his health and officially admitted for the first time that he has problems.

- Oh well, sometimes I limp, my leg hurts. They can't fix my joint - said Lukashenko. He added that "it's not that bad" because "where he can't get through, they'll drive him." At the same time, the dictator, who is soon to turn 70, insisted that "he's not dying yet."

“Contrary to Lukashenko's claims, other health problems are also obvious: the politician often cannot hide the tremors of his head," writes the service. It points out that the inspection of the hurricane-affected areas took place only two days after Lukashenko's arrival, and that from the helicopter – at least according to the Belarusian broadcaster, because in the opinion of Gazeta By, Lukashenko might not have been on board at all.
