On Sunday, images of large clouds of black smoke in Russia circulated on social media. Local inhabitants spoke of a fire at the Saint Petersburg airport, noting the troubling smoke makes breathing difficult.
According to Russian reports, a hangar close to the airport has caught fire. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Leningrad region indicated the fire in Saint Petersburg engulfed roughly 1,000 square metres.
Two individuals were injured, yet flights remain unaffected
Two individuals sustained injuries, with the hangar's roof and walls partially collapsing.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, and there has been no indication of any impact on air travel despite the dense smoke.
