Fire engulfs Russian research institute, dozens trapped inside

In the town of Fryazino near Moscow in Russia, the building of the research institute "Platan," which produces electronic parts and radio components, is on fire. According to Readovka, the fire has engulfed several floors. "Thick, black smoke is coming from the windows. According to witnesses, people are trapped in the building. Evacuation is underway," the statement reads.

According to the Baza channel, the fire appeared on the fourth and fifth floors of the building. As reported by the msk1.ru portal, people are trapped inside. "In the recording, you can see them waving from the windows of the building and asking for help, shouting that they lack air," it reads.

The research institute has a facility that specialises in producing electronic components and communication devices.

Rescue services informed RIA Novosti that firefighters had started a rescue operation on the upper floors of the burning Platan Research Institute building in Fryazino near Moscow.

According to Channel 112, about 10 people are trapped on the eighth floor of the burning Platan Research Institute.

Baza adds in the communiqué that at least one person has been injured. "Rescuers cannot reach the trapped people; firefighters are preparing a ladder. The fire has not yet been contained – the flames are spreading across the ceilings," it reads.
