At the NATO Military Committee meeting in Brussels, the Alliance's Secretary General, Mark Rutte, highlighted Russia's escalating threats. Rutte pointed out that Russia, with support from China, North Korea, and Iran, is engaging in hybrid activities such as cyberattacks and acts of sabotage to destabilise NATO countries.

Increased defence spending

Rutte noted that the response to these threats must include increasing defence spending. He stressed that all NATO countries should intensify military exercises and ramp up the production of military equipment. "It's time to switch to war-time thinking," warned Rutte, highlighting the need to prepare for future conflicts.

During the meeting in Brussels, Rutte reminded attendees that a NATO summit will be held in The Hague in five months. He emphasised that the Alliance's goal is to ensure citizens' security by developing partnerships and increasing defence capabilities. "My priority is that we do everything necessary as quickly as possible," Rutte concluded.
