Three people were injured on Wednesday during a scuffle caused by supporters of the PKK at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. According to local media, around 20 supporters of the organization opposed to the extradition of PKK member Firaz Korkmaz to Turkey converged at the airport. They were concerned that Korkmaz would face torture and imprisonment upon his return to Turkey.
The group confronted the National Repatriation Unit's escort team, which was escorting Korkmaz, causing altercations with the security personnel and civilian staff at the airport.
The confrontation, which began at the police station, quickly spread to the terminal. The soldiers called to manage the situation successfully restored peace, much to the tourists' surprise.
The protestors targeted the agents of the National Expulsions Unit (Unesi), responsible for escorting the Kurdish activist. They also attempted to breach the gates to access a restricted area without the necessary pass.
While an investigation is underway, no arrests have been made yet. Kurdish activist Firaz Korkmaz was, nevertheless, deported to Turkey.
