In late November of last year, Marianna Budanov, the wife of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine (HUR), Kyrylo Budanov, was admitted to the hospital exhibiting symptoms of poisoning.

Traces of heavy metals such as arsenic and mercury were discovered in her body. Thankfully, due to the early detection of the poisoning, dangerous outcomes were avoided.

The presence of poison was also noted in several high-ranking officials from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of National Defence.

In a recent interview with French newspaper, The Liberation, Budanov stated that his wife Marianna is showing signs of recovery. He also mentioned that no trace of poison was found in his body.

"Because I wasn't poisoned, it's tough for me to confirm whether this attempt on her life was an indirect attack on mine. But I've survived more than one attempt on my life and I'm prepared for any that may come in the future," said the head of Ukrainian intelligence.

Simultaneously, Budanov declared that he had identified the people behind the assassination attempt on his wife and assured that the security forces of Ukraine would respond.

"I believe retaliatory actions will be launched in Russia soon, and everyone will comprehend it," he emphasised.
