The Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) has recently highlighted a significant achievement. They captured and destroyed a crucial radar station essential for Russian air defence. The radar, destroyed in the operation, had a substantial cost, with the occupiers having spent approximately £4 million on it.

It has been two years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. Nearly every day, new developments regarding the conflict emerge. Missile strikes and ground battles between troops have become the norm, affecting not just those near the front line but also individuals living hundreds of miles away in cities.

Both sides keenly share their big and small victories to boost morale and demonstrate their resolve to the world. This is particularly noticeable in Ukraine, which continues to resist valiantly despite facing challenges and significant deficits in striking capabilities compared to the invading force.

Even minor triumphs can lead to significant outcomes, such as disrupting enemy plans or diminishing their combat strength. The latest operation, the details of which have just been announced, serves as a testament to this.

Ukrainian forces strike a valuable target, destroying a costly Russian radar

The Ukrainian Defense Intelligence shared news of a successful raid that obliterated a Russian radar station, priced at around £4 million. Former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko provided more insights about the operation on platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

Anton Gerashchenko explains that such radar stations represent a newer addition to the Russian military arsenal. The first units were introduced in 2015 and are a rare sight on the front lines, highlighting their importance.

These radars enable the Russians to identify airborne targets, and in conjunction with air defence systems, they are crucial for safeguarding against missile attacks. The loss of this radar station marks a significant win for the Ukrainian side.
