- I just spoke with Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi - Zelensky said during his evening video address. - We are advancing in Kursk Oblast – by one to three kilometres. We have taken control of two more settlements. Active operations are underway in another settlement. We are replenishing our 'exchange fund' - he emphasised.
Ukraine continues its offensive
The Armed Forces of Ukraine began an offensive operation in the Kursk region on 6th August.
The supreme commander of the Ukrainian army, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, in his Saturday report, reported an increase in the area controlled by Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region. According to his data, the area occupied by the Ukrainian armed forces has increased to roughly 1,260 square kilometres. General Syrskyi added that the number of settlements controlled by the Ukrainian armed forces has increased to 93.
The Ukrainian army entered without significant problems because the Russians did not consider the possibility of an invasion. Even the spring raids conducted in this area by the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), Battalion Siberia, and the "Freedom of Russia Legion" fighting on the side of Ukraine were not a warning signal for the Kremlin.
