According to recent communication from the Strategic Communication Centre of the Ukrainian Army, since Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have succeeded in immobilising nearly a third of the ships that comprise the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

Ukrainians torpedo the Russian Black Sea Fleet

Based on data gathered by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, it was reported by the Centre that Ukrainian soldiers have managed to take out of service 24 Russian ships, including a submarine. As per open source data, the Russian Black Sea Fleet comprised 74 warships at the outset of the invasion.

StratKom focused on the damage being inflicted on the Russian fleet as a result of its aggression towards Ukraine in its statement. A direct message to the Russians was included, underlining the repercussions of their actions.

"Moskva" at the bottom, "Ivanovets" sunk

The Ukrainian armed forces' latest success story is the destruction of a Russian missile boat named Ivanovets. The unit was patrolling the Black Sea near the Russian-occupied Crimea when a naval drone attack conducted by the Ukrainian military intelligence led to its sinking on the night of 31 January and 1 February.

The Russian navy suffered significant losses in April 2022 when the Moskva, the missile cruiser that was the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, was sunk. The Kremlin reported that only one crew member died on the cruiser, with another 27 listed as missing.

The actual count of casualties, however, was probably substantially more significant. Independent observers believe that more than 400 Russian military personnel may have perished.
