Ukrainian commander Dmytro Pletenchuk reported that the Russians are patrolling the Black Sea using submarines. According to Interia, Russia is using four submarines, three of which are equipped with cruise missiles.

The armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing for over two years. Recently, Ukraine destroyed dozens of Russian ships in the Black Sea, prompting the Russians to engage submarines in patrolling these waters.

As reported by the Ukrainian Truth portal, the presence of Russian units was announced by Dmytro Pletenchuk, head of the Southern Defence Forces' Strategic Communications Centre. Due to the loss of a significant number of ships, the Russians have increased their underwater activity to continue controlling the situation in the Black Sea.

"In the Black Sea, they are now performing tasks with submarines. They have already formed a practice where these submarines change each other in the morning," said Dmytro Pletenchuk.

The Ukrainian commander reported that four Russian submarines are operating in the Sea of Azov region, which constitutes the northern part of the Black Sea. According to Interia, three of these units are equipped with cruise missiles, posing a significant threat to regional security.

Russians want to protect their ships

The Russians have determined that the situation in the Sea of Azov has improved. Dmytro Pletenchuk noted that this occurred after the introduction of underwater patrols. The Russian Federation army plans to train military sailors to strengthen its regional forces. Besides submarines, two large Russian landing ships will also be in the area. Additionally, there are three small Buyan-class missile ships.

According to commander Dmytro Pletenchuk, Russia aims to protect its ships in the Sea of Azov from Ukrainian drone attacks. Interia reports that barges and barriers have been built to secure Russian units.

Additionally, it has been observed that Russian military ships often sail among civilian ships, aiming to hinder Ukrainian operations and minimise the risk of attacks. This tactic of using civilian ships as a "shield" presents an additional challenge for the Ukrainian armed forces, which must act cautiously to avoid harming civilians.
