Tragedy in Örebro: 10 dead in school shooting rampage
On Tuesday, there was a shooting at a continuing education school in Örebro, in southern Sweden. The police confirmed that there are 10 fatalities.
Earlier, the local police stated during a press conference that at the continuing education school in Örebro, where adults study, five people were found with gunshot wounds, including one suspect in the attack.
It was also reported that the first call came in at 10:33 AM Greenwich Time, and "a large number of officers" were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Media reported that there were several fatalities, but the police did not comment on this information. Students from this school and nearby institutions were evacuated.
The head of hospital care in the Örebro Region, Jonas Claesson, reported that of the five injured people, four underwent surgery, and one person’s injuries are severe.
Police: Alleged perpetrator of the attack is dead
On Tuesday evening, the police confirmed that about 10 people were killed in the shooting. This is an extremely tragic event - was stated at the press conference.
The officers also reported that the alleged perpetrator of the attack is dead. According to the head of local police, Roberto Eida Foresta, the attacker was not previously known to the police. - At this stage, there is no indication that a terrorist motive is involved - he emphasised.
The police officers informed that there is currently no longer a threat.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer stated to the Swedish news agency TT that "the reports of acts of violence in Örebro are very serious." - The police are on site, the operation is ongoing - he reported earlier. Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that this is a "painful day for the entire country."
Approximately 2,000 students attend Risbergska Skolan, including some taking Swedish language courses for foreigners.
