Russian missile strike on Ukrainian city claims five lives
Russian forces carried out a missile attack on the city of Izium in the Kharkiv region, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuring 55. The rescue operation has been completed.
Russian forces targeted the city of Izium in eastern Ukraine's Kharkiv region with a ballistic missile on Tuesday, leading to five fatalities and 55 injuries, reported Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the regional military authorities.
A pregnant woman among the dead
"In the missile attack, which likely involved an Iskander-type missile, a 44-year-old man, a 69-year-old man, two women aged 18 and 19, one of whom was pregnant, and one man whose identity is yet to be determined were killed" - wrote Syniehubov on Telegram.
The majority of the injured are employees of the tax office, government institutions, a medical university, and other facilities.
A Russian missile hit the city centre, partially destroying the Izium City Council building, an administrative building, and damaging three residential buildings.
Zelensky reacts to Russia's attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the attack.
"This brutality cannot go unanswered. Pressure must be applied to Russia with as much force as possible – the force of arms, the force of sanctions, and the force of diplomacy – to stop terror and protect lives" - emphasized Zelensky.
Russian forces occupied Izium from April to September 2022, when Ukrainian forces conducted a counteroffensive and liberated nearly the entire Kharkiv region, including the cities of Kupiansk, Balakliia, and Vovchansk.
