After the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump, all eyes are on the USA. Global media note that the dramatic event, which happened overnight from Saturday to Sunday, may increase Trump's chances of winning the election.
Hungarian media are focusing on a slightly different aspect. They claim that the assassination attempt on Trump was not surprising. The HVG weekly portal writes that the two main political parties, Republicans and Democrats, perceive each other as "destroyers of the country."
– After the last few years, no one can say that the attack on Trump was unexpected, which convinces HVG. – The demonization of political opponents has been going on for years, intensified by uncontrolled memes, caricatures, and fake materials shared on social media – argues the portal.
The 24.hu portal also highlights the deepening political divide between Republicans and Democrats. It argues that dialogue is complex due to the lack of common ground.
The 24.hu portal assesses that "America has never been more alone and divided than now," and political violence "has reached its peak" and now resembles "the dark 70s."
