Ukrainian forces unveil North Korean strategies in Kursk
Ukrainian special forces have revealed notes from a North Korean soldier, detailing strategies for combating drones and evading artillery fire. These tactics reportedly involve the use of live bait.
The Ukrainian special forces published excerpts from the notes found on a North Korean soldier's notebook, who was neutralised in Russia's Kursk region. According to the Ukrainska Pravda portal, the soldier was part of a special unit and documented tactics in his notes for taking down drones and avoiding artillery fire.
Tactics for taking down drones
The notes describe a strategy that involves forming a group of three individuals. One person is tasked with attracting the drone's attention, maintaining a distance of 8 yards. Meanwhile, the shooters position themselves 11-13 yards away. When the drone halts, the shooters aim to destroy it. Whether this tactic originated in North Korea or was shared by the Russians remains uncertain.
The notes also guide avoiding artillery fire. If caught in a shelling zone, it is advised to split into small groups and move away from the area.
Alternatively, taking shelter in a previously struck location is suggested, as artillery rarely targets the same spot twice.
"NYT": Sending North Korean troops to Russia was Kim's initiative, not Putin's
Ukrainian special forces continue their operations against North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region.
American intelligence believes that it was Kim Jong Un who proposed sending his troops to Russia, contrary to earlier assumptions that it was at Vladimir Putin's request, reports "The New York Times" on Monday.
Officials quoted in the report suggest Kim hopes Russia will reciprocate the favour in the future.
As "The New York Times" reports, despite initial interpretations of the deployment of North Korean troops to Ukraine's war as a sign of Russian desperation, US intelligence now assesses that the initiative came from North Korea, although Putin swiftly accepted it.
