The President of the USA, Joe Biden, expressed outrage at - as he emphasised - the "outrageous attack" by Russia on Ukraine, which took place on Christmas Day.
"The purpose of this outrageous attack was to cut off the Ukrainian people’s access to heat and electricity during winter and to jeopardize the safety of its grid," the President emphasised in a statement.
Biden also informed that he directed the US Department of Defense to continue the enhanced supply of weapons to Ukraine.
Russian attack on energy infrastructure
On the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, Russia conducted a massive attack on Ukrainian energy facilities, using 184 missiles and drones. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that the attack caused severe damage to the energy infrastructure, and several regions in Ukraine experienced power outages.
The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed the attack, noting that its target was Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
