President-elect Donald Trump announced on Saturday the nomination of Charles Kushner for the position of United States ambassador to France. Trump emphasised that Kushner would be a strong representative of US interests.

Kushner, a close associate of Trump and the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, is a well-known businessman and philanthropist. At the same time, he is a controversial figure, especially since he served almost two years in prison.

He was convicted of tax fraud and witness tampering. However, in 2020, at the end of Trump’s first term, he was pardoned by the president.

During his first term, Trump acted similarly—surrounding himself with his friends and family members. For instance, he appointed his son-in-law, Ivanka Trump's husband Jared Kushner, to the position of senior adviser.

Now, in the line-up of the president-elect's future administration, he is not mentioned. In February this year, he revealed that he no longer plans to collaborate with Trump. When he left the White House with his father-in-law in 2021, he moved into the financial sector, founding an investment firm in Miami.

Trump then turned to Charles, his father. The businessman has repeatedly donated significant sums to the Republicans.
