German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Amman, expressed his concerns about US President Donald Trump's plans to relocate Palestinians and the US intervention in the Gaza Strip. Steinmeier emphasised that in the Middle East region, he only hears concerns about this idea.

Steinmeier, quoted by the dpa agency, noted that the Middle East needs a lasting solution, not temporary measures. In his view, relocating Palestinians could lead to further tensions and conflicts.

Threat to Palestinians

The German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, also criticised Trump's plans, emphasising that the Gaza Strip belongs to the Palestinians. Expelling them would be against international law.

"It would also lead to new suffering and new hatred," Baerbock stated in a statement. She added, "There must be no solution over the heads of the Palestinians."

Trump's controversial proposal

Donald Trump proposed that Palestinians be permanently relocated, suggesting that Jordan, Egypt, and other countries could take them in. Trump argued that the Gaza Strip is war-torn and needs a comprehensive overhaul.

During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Steinmeier emphasised that a new approach is needed to stabilise the entire region, not just Israel and the Palestinians. In his opinion, current actions are not yielding the expected results.
