Sean Curran steps up as Secret Service director after protecting Trump
Donald Trump has appointed Sean Curran as the new director of the Secret Service. Curran, who protected Trump during the attack in Pennsylvania, has over 20 years of experience with the agency.
Donald Trump announced the nomination of Sean Curran for the position of Secret Service director. This information was shared by Donald Trump Jr. on platform X, emphasising that Curran is a "great patriot." Curran, the former head of Trump's personal security, has more than 20 years of service in the agency.
The decision to appoint Curran comes at a challenging time for the Secret Service. The agency faced criticism following two failed assassination attempts on Trump in 2024. The first incident occurred on 13 July in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was slightly injured. Curran and his team quickly responded, shielding the president-elect.
During the attack, the assailant was shot by a sniper, but questions arose about the effectiveness of the protection. Experts point to communication problems between local and federal security services. The second attempt took place on 15 September in Florida, but Trump was not injured.
Although Curran actively worked on enhancing security measures for Trump, some experts have doubts about his experience in leading the Secret Service. Up until now, he has managed a team of about 85 people, which may not be sufficient for running such a complex organisation.
