Musk ignites uproar over Zelensky-Trump White House clash
Elon Musk criticised the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, following his meeting with the US President, Donald Trump, in Washington. An advisor to Trump stated that the Ukrainian president "destroyed himself in front of American people".
Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, commented on platform X regarding the Friday meeting between the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Donald Trump at the White House.
Musk's post was a response to a statement by Thomas Massie, a Republican member of the House of Representatives, who suggested that Zelensky's presidency might be at risk. "Is this the end of Zelensky’s presidency? He hitched his wagon to Biden and the deep state. They lost and now he doesn’t seem to be playing his cards well," wrote Massie.
"Zelensky destroyed himself in front of American people," Musk responded.
Reactions of American politicians
Senator Lindsey Graham of the Republican Party praised Trump for presenting a "masterclass on how to stand up for America." He also expressed disappointment that the planned deal on Ukrainian mineral resources did not come to fruition. Meanwhile, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticised Zelensky for showing a lack of respect towards Trump, emphasising the substantial assistance the USA has provided to Ukraine.
Representatives of the Democratic Party held a different view. They criticised Trump for his attitude towards Zelensky, accusing him of having ties with Russia. Ken Martin, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, wrote that Trump allied with the wrong colours, adding the Russian flag to his post.
Democratic criticism of Trump
Ben Rhodes, former Deputy National Security Advisor of the USA, stated that Trump dislikes Zelensky because he is a democratically elected leader fighting against Russia. Jason Crow, a Democratic congressman, assessed that Trump "has turned the Oval Office into a Russian propaganda machine."
Zelensky's meeting with Trump caused much controversy among American politicians, highlighting differences in approaches to relations with Ukraine and Russia.
