Separating art from the artist is a complex task. In some instances, one might question whether it should even be attempted (P. Diddy, Roman Polanski, Johnny Depp), as it poses numerous moral dilemmas. Cancel culture is prevalent, yet many problematic artists continue to thrive.
One notable example of this precarious balance is Matty Healy from 1975. Fans of the band are frequently faced with the ethical question: do they genuinely want to continue supporting this individual financially? The artist is known for controversial behaviour and "saying things he shouldn't.” This often involves racist and sexist "jokes" directed at specific individuals. The musician mocked the appearance and heritage of rapper Ice Spice, who later—quite iconically—featured on "Karma" by Taylor Swift, Healy's former partner.
However, that is not all. During a festival in Kuala Lumpur, Matty vehemently criticised the local laws discriminating against LGBTQ+ individuals by kissing bassist Ross McDonald on stage. The event's regulations prohibited political speech, alcohol consumption, smoking, and profanity on stage. Healy blatantly disregarded these rules, leading to The 1975 concert being stopped, the remainder of the event being cancelled, and the band subsequently banned in Malaysia.
Matty Healy sucked a fan's thumb. Earlier, he ate a "bloody" steak
Matty Healy—one of the most controversial figures in show business—is an ideal topic for a PowerPoint party presentation. The musician has a history of kissing fans without asking for consent or age verification (although he eventually began asking for ID), but this time, he went completely overboard.
A young woman "proudly" shared on TikTok that Matty Healy sucked her thumb at a concert. It only dawned on her moments later that the artist had just consumed a piece of raw meat.
The incident occurred last year during the "Still... At Their Very Best" tour but resurfaced through a post on X. Internet users are horrified and disgusted by The 1975's frontman's conduct.
"I would be mortified if I had to be in the same room as Matty Healy, but this? I'm planning my funeral." "Personally, I would amputate my thumb." "My worst nightmare." "Taylor, did you kiss this guy?" - they comment.
