Macron spoke during a visit to the Portuguese parliament, asserting that EU countries should bolster themselves particularly "in technological, industrial, and defence areas."

His comments came a few days after meeting with Donald Trump, who has repeatedly criticised NATO member countries, and recently, due to his administration, Russia emerged from years of isolation on the international stage.

The French President stressed that Europeans must recognize the need for unity and strength now more than ever. He also highlighted the importance of supporting Ukraine, describing it as a defense of international law and a crucial effort to ensure Europe's security.
