Kate Middleton: from prep school to princess, a journey beyond the 'mother's profession' box

Contrary to the popular narrative about Kate Middleton as a "duchess of the people," her upbringing was anything but ordinary. While her parents didn't hold noble titles, they were affluent and frequented elite circles. They provided their children with a solid education at reputable and costly institutions.

After attending St. Andrew's Prep School and Marlborough College, she pursued higher studies at the University of St. Andrews, earning an honors Master of Arts degree in Art History. Perhaps more notably, it was at this university that Middleton met Prince William.

Profession: Duchess

But even before becoming a part of the British royal family, she's held diverse roles. Before her studies, she worked as a deckhand at Ocean Village Marina in Southampton. Soon after graduating from St. Andrews, she pursued a career in marketing for her family business.

Upon marrying the prince and giving birth to their first son, Middleton's professional experience and education seemed to recede in importance. In Prince George's birth certificate, under the "mother's profession" field, "Princess of the United Kingdom" was listed. This is a distinction that has occurred only a few times in history.

According to "The Mirror", this recorded profession for the mother did not stay on the birth certificate of Kate and William's firstborn for long. It was shortly afterwards amended to "Duchess of Cambridge" and "Duchess of Wales".
