Instagram announced good news for creators. People who follow content on this app will certainly be pleased as well. The platform has announced key changes to its algorithm.

Not so long ago, Instagram mainly allowed you to watch photos and videos posted on the profiles you follow. Moreover, they were displayed in chronological order. However, the algorithm has been redesigned, and it no longer prioritizes the source of content. The primary goal has now become to maintain the user's interest.

As a result of these changes, creators of original content started to be marginalized, and accounts that aggregated content created by others came into prominence. It's difficult not to get the impression that Instagram has turned into a sort of dumpsite. Fortunately, the company itself has also recognized this issue.

What changes to its algorithm will Instagram introduce?

Instagram announced that it has been working on algorithm modifications for several months. These changes aim to improve the visibility of smaller creators and discourage users from publishing others' materials.

Here are the main premises of the new plan:

  • If the algorithm identifies two identical materials (or more), it will then promote only the original content; the original author will also be notified about the situation.
  • Labels that link to the originals will appear under content that uses parts of already published materials.
  • Profiles that have posted at least 10 pieces of content from other accounts in the last 30 days will no longer be recommended to people who do not follow them.

Instagram emphasizes that the new regulations will only affect accounts publishing other materials without making "significant modifications." Commenting, analysing, or parodying others' posts will still be possible.

These significant changes to the Instagram algorithm are set to be introduced in the coming months.
