Hamas leader denounces Trump's Gaza plan amid Iran's backing
One of the leaders of Hamas, Khalil al-Hayya, criticised U.S. President Donald Trump's plans concerning the Gaza Strip. He stated that they are "doomed to fail."
Khalil al-Hayya, a leader of the Palestinian terrorist organisation Hamas, sharply criticised U.S. President Donald Trump's plans regarding the Gaza Strip during a visit to Tehran. Trump has announced the takeover of this territory by the U.S. and the relocation of its inhabitants to Islamic countries.
- We will destroy them just as we destroyed previous projects - al-Hayya declared.
Iran supports Hamas
Over the weekend, al-Hayya met with Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who congratulated Hamas on its successes in fighting Israel and "defeating the Zionist regime" in the war that began in October 2023.
Iran has long supported organisations attacking Israel, including Hamas. The authorities in Tehran openly declare their desire to destroy the Jewish state. To the Israeli government, the regime in Tehran is the most dangerous enemy.
Conflict with Israel
Iran, a key ally of Hamas, has conducted missile raids on Israel twice in 2024, which were met with retaliatory attacks on targets in Iran. Earlier, in October 2023, Palestinian terrorists began a war with Israel, leading to a worsening situation in the region.
Weakening of Hezbollah
Until recently, the most significant organisation supported by Iran was the Lebanese Hezbollah. However, after last year's war with Israel, which ended with a ceasefire in November, Hezbollah has been significantly weakened. Meanwhile, Hamas is gaining importance within the network of organisations supported by Iran, called the "axis of resistance".
