In the summer, you could choose from various fruits for your porridge. They are delicious and full of vitamins, but now another addition is more important. In the autumn, it's worth focusing on it. These humble seeds have great power.

Small seeds have power

We are talking about black cumin seeds. These small, black seeds are becoming increasingly popular. We find them in bread, cheese, and salads, but adding them to porridge can also bring many health benefits. Additionally, the porridge itself is quite bland, so the distinct taste of black cumin will give it a new character. They can transform porridge.

Why does black cumin work?

What is hidden in black cumin? It is primarily rich in vitamins (A, E, F and those from the B group) and minerals such as zinc, magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium, and selenium. Thanks to these components:

  • Black cumin has antibacterial and antiviral properties, supports the immune system, and helps fight infections.
  • It lowers bad cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
  • It aids digestion and inhibits the growth of Candida Albicans fungi, detoxifying the body.
  • It supports liver function and alleviates acne symptoms.

Adding black cumin to porridge is a simple way to enrich your diet. It goes well with both sweet and savoury versions of porridge and is best served with seasonal vegetables.

Recipe for savoury porridge with black cumin

Ingredients:

  • 100 millilitres of porridge oats,
  • 250 millilitres of water,
  • a pinch of salt.

Additions:

  • finely chopped spring onion with chives,
  • a tablespoon of grated Parmesan, Cheddar, or other favourite cheese,
  • a teaspoon of olive oil,
  • 1 tomato,
  • a teaspoon of black cumin,
  • salt and pepper to taste.

Preparation:

  1. Cook the porridge oats in water until they become soft. Season with salt and a pinch of pepper.
  2. Add the cheese to the porridge and mix.
  3. Put the porridge in a bowl and place tomato slices on top.
  4. Sprinkle with chives and black cumin.
  5. Finally, drizzle with olive oil and season to taste.
