Zelensky and Macron discuss potential troop deployment
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, discussed military support and the possible deployment of allied personnel in Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that on Monday, he had a conversation with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, whose main topic was support for Ukraine. The discussion included "the deployment of contingents" of allied military personnel on Ukrainian territory.
"It was a rather long and detailed conversation. We discussed defence support – various forms of defence, arms packages for Ukraine," Zelensky said in an evening video address.
During the conversation, the leaders also discussed investments in the purchase of missiles for Ukraine. "We also discussed the deployment of partner contingents and the training of our military," the Ukrainian president added, mentioning that the conversation included the training of Ukrainian soldiers in France.
Talks on the deployment of French troops in Ukraine
The AFP agency recalls that on 10 January, Macron and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, talked about further support and security guarantees for Ukraine.
As early as the beginning of December, it was reported that Ukraine is considering Macron's proposal regarding the possible deployment of Western troops in Ukraine. Macron suggested that such a possibility should not be ruled out in the future to ensure Ukraine's security.
