Router functions

Routers are commonly used both at home and in businesses. Their primary task is to connect various devices to the internet and manage network traffic, ensuring a stable and fast connection. With an appropriate router, devices such as computers, smartphones, and tablets can use the internet simultaneously without disruptions or interruptions.

Routers significantly simplify everyday life by providing constant access to the network in every corner of the house or office. Thanks to them, we can work remotely, use streaming services, and maintain seamless communication. Additionally, advanced router features such as creating VPNs, access control, and bandwidth management improve work efficiency and data security.

Secret button on the router - what is it for?

Most modern routers have a WPS button on the back or side of the device next to other ports and buttons. What is it used for?

The WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button allows for quick and secure connection of devices to the Wi-Fi network without needing to enter a password. To use it, press the mentioned button on the router and select the appropriate option on the device you want to connect to the network. Its main advantage is simplicity and convenience, as it significantly simplifies the configuration process of wireless devices. We don't have to type in complicated passwords.

Is it worth using the WPS button?

Although the WPS function is convenient, it carries significant security risks. Experts in this area have discovered that Wi-Fi Protected Setup technology is susceptible to brute-force attacks, which can allow guessing the PIN code and unauthorized access to the network. Enabling WPS can make it easier for potential intruders to take control of your home Wi-Fi.

Disabling this feature and using strong, unique passwords for the wireless network is recommended to increase security. Newer routers also use new encryption for wireless data transmission—WPA3, which provides higher protection.

Although the WPS button on the router may seem convenient, using it comes with certain risks. To better secure the home network, consider disabling this feature and relying on solid passwords and modern encryption methods such as WPA3. This way, you can enjoy safe and reliable internet access.
