Wizz Air resumes Poland-Israel flights despite travel warnings
In mid-January, following a few months' hiatus, the airline Wizz Air resumed flights from Poland to Israel. These flights are slated to occur three times a week. In theory, this is positive news for travel enthusiasts, yet the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to caution against travelling to Israel.
In mid-October of the previous year, Wizz Air, concerned about passenger safety, suspended flights to Israel due to ongoing conflicts in the region. After three months, the popular carrier opted to resume flights. Wizz Air planes are now departing from Katowice, Krakow, and Warsaw to Tel Aviv once more. Flights are scheduled three times a week, and tickets are currently available on the airline's website and app.
The decision to resume flights was made when the situation in the region somewhat stabilised. To recall: following the outbreak of war between Israel and Palestinian Hamas, Hezbollah began firing at Israel, to which the country responded with a ground offensive against Hezbollah.
For months, the situation in the region was extremely tense. It was only last week that the government of Benjamin Netanyahu endorsed an agreement with Hamas regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Flights to Israel. Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns
The decision to resume flights to Israel was made not only by the Hungarian airline but also by Polish Airlines LOT. These flights are conducted daily between Warsaw and Tel Aviv. Resuming flights might give tourists visiting the country a sense of safety once more. The issue at hand is that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to advise Polish citizens against any travels to Israel, particularly to Jerusalem, areas adjacent to the Gaza Strip, and the border zones with Lebanon and Syria.
Due to regional tensions, the security situation in Israel is highly unpredictable. A sudden escalation of military activities cannot be ruled out, which would cause significant difficulties in leaving the country. A potential escalation could lead to major restrictions in air traffic and the inability to cross land border crossings connecting Israel with neighbouring countries - this is emphasised in the statement posted on the government website.
Wizz Air is a Hungarian airline, operating over 600 routes from 25 operational bases in Central and Eastern Europe. Due to attractive ticket prices, tourists eagerly take advantage of the Hungarian airline's offer.
