Baked rice with apples is a signature dish of my mum. It combines what everyone loves - a filling meal and an exceptionally tasty dessert. A solid dose of cinnamon enhances the flavor and fills the entire house with an amazing aroma during baking. From the doorstep, everyone knows that lunch will be delicious today.

Baked rice with apples is a delicious and simple dish that brings back the warmth of home and the taste of childhood. The recipe has not been covered in dust or forgotten in my home - my mum still prepares baked rice with apples for lunch.

Baked rice with apples

Although cinnamon is mainly associated with autumn and winter, baked rice with apples is worth reaching for all year round. It's perfect for a sweet lunch, a tasty afternoon snack, or a warming dinner.

Preparing this dish is incredibly simple and quick, requiring only a few basic ingredients. When my mum announces that lunch will be rice with apples, everyone eagerly counts down the hours until this meal is served.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of rice,
  • 2 cups of milk,
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar,
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla sugar,
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon,
  • 4 apples,
  • 2 tablespoons of butter,
  • a pinch of salt.

How to prepare:

  1. Rinse the rice and cook it in salted water according to the instructions on the package.
  2. Bring the milk to a boil in a pot with the sugar, vanilla sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Drain the cooked rice and add it to the milk. Stir and cook over low heat for about 10 minutes until the rice softens and absorbs the milk.
  4. Peel the apples, cut them into cubes, and sauté in butter until golden.
  5. Grease an ovenproof dish with butter.
  6. Layer half of the rice at the bottom, add apples, and top with the rest.
  7. Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for about 20-25 minutes, until the top of the rice browns.

You can pour yogurt mixed with sugar over the casserole. If you want to serve it with a scoop of vanilla or cream ice cream, like apple pie. Bon appétit!
