In many kitchens, the drawer under the oven is little used or ignored. While its main purpose might be to store baking sheets or kitchen accessories, its potential is much greater. In reality, this drawer offers a range of innovative uses that can significantly facilitate everyday cooking and kitchen organisation.
The drawer under the oven - what is it for?
Most modern ovens have a drawer located under the main chamber. We usually keep baking accessories in it, such as sheets, brushes, or racks, which allows for effective use of kitchen space, especially in those with limited space.
It should be noted, however, that this drawer, technically known as a warming drawer, serves a very important function. It can significantly streamline the cooking process.
How to keep the drawer under the oven clean?
As its name suggests, the warming drawer is used to heat and maintain the temperature of dishes. It can maintain a temperature range from 40 to 75 degrees Celsius. Thanks to it, you can simultaneously serve two hot dishes prepared one after another. Additionally, the drawer is great for warming dishes and serving food on warm plates.
To fully utilise this function, it is essential to keep it clean. This is crucial because the drawer has direct contact with food. Regular cleaning of the oven and the drawer will help maintain the taste of dishes and ensure proper hygiene. It is not recommended to use strong detergents, though.
Natural cleaning agents, such as a 1:1 solution of water and vinegar, are recommended. Wipe the inside of the drawer with a cloth soaked in this mixture. For tougher stains, like dried-on grease, baking soda can be used. Sprinkle the dirt with baking soda, moisten it with water, leave it for a few minutes, and then rinse it with warm water. In this way, stubborn stains should disappear without much effort.
