Tragedy in Washington
A passenger plane collided in the air with a Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk helicopter while approaching the runway. Both aircraft fell into the river.
As a result of the collision, 64 passengers on the plane and three soldiers on board the helicopter were killed.
An investigation is underway to clarify all the circumstances of the disaster. According to the new Pentagon chief, Pete Hegseth, the crew of the crashed Black Hawk helicopter was quite experienced and was performing an annual night flying check. He announced that the investigation would determine whether the helicopter was on the correct flight path.
According to media and aviation experts, the aviation disaster in Washington could have been caused by systemic negligence over the years. They primarily point to exhausted air traffic controllers and an increase in the number of flights.
