Tucker Carlson interviews Orban: EU risks 'Afghanistan scenario'
Controversial American journalist Tucker Carlson, who gained fame from his interview with Putin a year ago, has now spoken with Viktor Orban. "If President [Donald] Trump is not able to find a solution, that war could become easily an Afghanistan for the European Union," declared the Hungarian Prime Minister.
According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, the most important task for President Trump is "how to convince the Russians to stop the war while the Russians are basically winning." Orban reiterated that, in his opinion, Russia attacked Ukraine to prevent it from joining NATO. He also defended himself against allegations of being allied with Putin. "I'm not a pro-Putin man, I’m a pro-Hungarian guy," he said.
Meanwhile, he criticised the actions taken by Kyiv in response to the Russian aggression. "Ukraine may have misunderstood the West, thinking that the West would support Ukraine forever. And that’s why their behavior was not exactly what it should be considered as normal," assessed Orban, adding that "when you’re in trouble, and you need help, you go somewhere to ask for help."
Orban also reiterated that now is the best time to make peace. He stated that the risk of a third world war cannot be taken and expressed sympathy for Ukrainians, noting that their current approach has put them in a difficult situation.
Commenting on the first weeks of power by the new American president, the interlocutor assessed that Donald Trump changed the political mindset of the West. This is particularly true regarding migration issues and the Green Deal. Orban explained that economic competitiveness is now seen as the top priority, with environmental concerns taking a secondary role.
In a conversation with Carlson, Trump also addressed worldview issues. He noted that while Christianity was once considered a creation of the Middle Ages, there is now a growing recognition of the need to respect religious communities. Orban also observed that in the West, the belief that the institution of family had become obsolete and that people should adopt different ways of living was once prevalent, but this perspective has since shifted. Once again, he also declared that Donald Trump is promoting and realising these ideas that his government has been advocating for years.
