Israeli soldiers charged with brutal abuse of Palestinian detainee
The Israeli military prosecutor has charged five soldiers with the brutal abuse of a Palestinian prisoner at the Sde Teiman facility.
"The accused kicked the detainee under their supervision for 15 minutes, trampled on him, stood on him, beat him all over his body using batons, dragged him on the ground, and tased him, including on his head," the indictment stated. It was noted that the prisoner was blindfolded, with his hands and legs shackled at the time.

One of the accused soldiers further assaulted the prisoner with a sharp object, causing severe internal injuries. An hour after the attack, the guards took the bleeding prisoner to hospital, where he underwent surgery. Among other injuries, doctors found seven broken ribs and a punctured lung.
The incident occurred on 5th July 2024. The arrest of the suspects triggered protests from right-wing demonstrators who stormed military bases. Amongst the protesters were extreme right-wing politicians opposing the actions of the military prosecutor's office.
In the Sde Teiman camp in the Negev Desert, many Palestinians have been detained following the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip. Human rights organisations have raised alarms about the poor conditions in the detention facility and the violation of detainees' rights.
