The Axios portal reported that Danish authorities contacted Donald Trump’s team regarding Greenland’s security. According to two undisclosed sources, joint Danish-American actions or an increased US military presence on the island are being considered.
The US wants to acquire Greenland
Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, has gained significance due to its strategic position in the Arctic. The island could be crucial for tracking missiles launched towards the US. The United States has a base there, Thule Air Base in Pituffik, further underscoring its importance.
The US president-elect, Donald Trump, does not rule out using military or economic means to take control of Greenland. His administration may take action in this direction after taking office at 5:00 pm GMT on 20th January. Climate change and melting glaciers are increasing the economic importance of the island, which is rich in natural resources.
