Trump sues cbs for £8 billion over '60 Minutes' interview

Donald Trump was highly critical of the news programme "60 Minutes," which has achieved a cult status in the United States. According to the former U.S. President, it should be "terminated." This was all due to his interview with Kamala Harris, which "60 Minutes" aired in October of the previous year.

By the end of October 2024, when the U.S. was in the midst of the election campaign, Trump sued CBS, the network on which "60 Minutes" is broadcast. The then-presidential candidate demanded £8 billion in damages. He claimed that Kamala Harris's statements about Israel were manipulated on "60 Minutes"—they sounded different in the trailer than in the full programme.

CBS counters Trump's accusations

To counter Trump's accusations, CBS published the entire, original, unedited interview on its website.

However, this was not sufficient for Trump. He declared on a social media platform that the two entities "defrauded the public by doing something which has never, to this extent, been seen before."

They 100% removed Kamala’s horrible election changing answers to questions, and replaced them with completely different, and far better, answers, taken from another part of the interview - Trump said.

According to Trump, such an action is nothing but election interference and "defrauded the public" to an extent "never seen before."

He also added that CBS should lose its licence and the lawyers of "60 Minutes" should be fired.

The network emphasised that interviews are always edited before airing. Its employees assured that when making changes to the interview, they were guided by truth and what they believed to be most enlightening for viewers.

Kamala Harris was responding to a question about whether "Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is listening to the Biden-Harris administration." And although a shorter answer was finally aired, "each excerpt reflects the substance of the vice president's answer."

However, as reported by "The Independent," CBS is considering proposing a settlement in this matter to the former U.S. President.

The CBS programme "60 Minutes" has been on the television airwaves since 1968.
