Transatlantic tensions rise as US and Europe clash in Munich
Russian media are commenting on the Munich Security Conference, pointing out discrepancies between the USA and Europe, which pleases the Kremlin.
Many of the reports provided by Russian media and government representatives are likely not true. Such reports may be part of an information war from the Russian Federation.
The Munich Security Conference has become a topic of numerous comments in Russian media, emphasising that the event revealed divisions in transatlantic unity. "Kommersant" noted that the chaos in Munich was well-received by the Kremlin authorities.
The Russian newspaper "Kommersant", quoted by the Polish Press Agency, described the conference as a symbol of discord between the new American administration and "old Europe". Contrary to previous practices, representatives from Washington criticised not Russia and China, but Europe itself. They implied that they do not see a place for Europe at the negotiating table regarding Ukraine. This approach shocked and angered European politicians and Ukrainians.
Criticism of European democracy
The speech by Vice President J.D. Vance, in which he criticised European democracy, was met with discontent among European politicians. "Kommersant" emphasised that the chaos in Munich encouraged the authorities in Russia, where there is talk of "the death of the collective West".
"Vedomosti" commented that Vance's speech was like "new guidelines" from the senior partner to the junior. The course of the conference left EU representatives puzzled. According to the Russian newspaper, Washington is no longer ready for full solidarity with European NATO partners and aims to resolve the conflict in Ukraine without EU involvement.
Russian media, such as "Kommersant" and "Vedomosti", emphasise that the Munich Security Conference revealed significant divisions in transatlantic unity, which is beneficial for the Kremlin.
